Man Arrested For Stealing From Abandoned Car on the Highway

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- A Lanham man was arrested for damaging and stealing from an abandoned car on the highway, according to Maryland State Police.

Around 4:26 a.m., a State Trooper was patrolling inner loop I-495 and U.S. Route 50 in Prince George's County, when he saw a GMC Terrain with its front passenger side window broken. The trooper also saw a Nissan vehicle on the left shoulder of the highway and approached the man in the vehicle and learned the man, 23-year-old Pharez Sharp, broke the window and removed property from the GMC.

Sharp was arrested for malicious destruction of property and theft.  Sharp was taken to be seen by a Prince George's County District Court Commissioner.

The Maryland State Police would like to remind motorist to please remove their vehicle from the highways as soon as possible should they become disabled. Removing disabled vehicle from the highways reduces traffic collisions, criminal activity and permits emergency vehicle to respond to emergencies promptly.

The Maryland State Police College Park Barrack is asking anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact the College Park Barrack at 301-345-3101.
