Harford County Dog Groomer's Pet Brush Is On Kickstarter

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Some big inventions like the Legos, intermittent wipers, and television were invented by amateurs with a good idea. As Mike Schuh reports, a woman in Harford County says her idea just needs a little money to get going.

Thomas Edison move over, Liz Morrissey is hot on your tail. In fact, her idea is specifically for tails. Liz is a dog groomer who long ago got tired of the combs on the market.

"It works, but it don't work as good as I'd like it to work," said Morissey.

So, she enlisted Brian Murrihy, her MIT trained nephew, to help.

"When you're a groomer, time is money," said Morissey.

So they cobbled together prototype after prototype. Many concepts later they had their winning design "prototyped" for real.

It's called Lumo named after Brian's wife Lucy, and Liz's last name Morrissey.

A lever rejects all the fur. Professional groomers rejoice because they spend more time cleaning their tools than brushing the dog.
So now, fresh with prototypes for different size dogs they need cash to make 3000 actual solo demo tools.

"We've been working on this for the past 4 years this has been my full time thing, it depleted my savings building prototypes and Liz has been testing and testing," said Murrihy.

Their kickstarter page is up and the  two local inventors hoping the exposure will fund their idea.

"If it were Oprah promoting this product, it would fly off the shelves, but they don't know me, so, that's what I'm trying to do," said Morissey.

They have until Christmas Day to raise an additional 35 thousand dollars.
