The Orioles Reach Holiday Party Helping the Baltimore Community

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- It's a collaboration for the holidays that leaves nearly 100 kids smiling and walking away with a bag full of gifts.

Each year "Orioles Reach" spreads the holiday cheer to families in Baltimore. This year, it involved 80 outpatient kids from the University of Maryland Children's Hospital.

They've shown their skills on the diamond but Tuesday some Orioles players had to put on a different game face for their younger competitors.

"It makes it a little bit easier when you're getting dominated in games by kids that are half your age, so it's a good time. We have a good time coming out here and spending time with these guys," said Orioles player, Chris Davis.

The fun day at Dave and Busters in Arundel Mills Mall was the setting for the annual Orioles Reach holiday party.

"There was just this one game, I went inside with my friends and we tried to kill all the zombies. It was in 3D, so we were like, 'ahhh.' and jumping around and laughing," said 9-year-old Anira Lee.

And the fun didn't stop there, the kids were also able to get a bag full of gifts, that included toys, board games and so much more.

The event is also in conjunction with infielder Chris Davis and his wife Jill, partnering with the children's hospital to benefit the neonatal intensive care unit.

"This is not just the next few months, this is something for a few years to come and that was really what sparked our interest. That fact that they are doing so many things to make it a little bit more convenient, a little bit more comfortable for the children and their family, that's obviously a big deal to us," said Davis.

"There are those kinds of things, and we look toward the future for opportunities to bring more visibility to life changing things that we can do to improve the health of kids all around Maryland," said Dr. Vicki Tepper of the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

This is the 38th year of the Orioles Reach holiday party is helping the Baltimore community.
