BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Authorities are investigating the drowning death of a 12-year-old boy in Orange County, Florida, who they say is from Maryland.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office reports the incident took place just before 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Grand Cypress Hotel.

Responding deputies found a 12-year-old boy who had been pulled from the pool by witnesses. CPR was being performed.

The victim, identified as DeShawn Smith, was taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Few details have been released as authorities continue their investigation, but the sheriff’s office reports Smith was staying at the hotel, and his family is from Maryland.
