Maryland State Police is searching for a man accused of assaulting a trooper with his vehicle, then trying to hit the trooper again.

Anthony Jason Schmidtman, 35, reportedly assaulted a trooper with his vehicle while trying to get away.

The incident began just after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, when a trooper noticed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Wawa located in the 3700 block of Washington Blvd. in Halethorpe

The trooper noticed drug paraphernalia in the blue 2006 Dodge Caravan, and ordered the driver, Schmidtman, to wait behind the van.

Schmidtman then ran back to the driver's seat, and as the trooper tried to get him back out of the vehicle, Schmidtman sped away in reverse.

The trooper's arm was hit by the fleeing vehicle, and then Schmidtman reportedly drove towards the trooper, who managed to get out of the way.

Schmidtman then fled the scene, and authorities are now searching for him. He faces a number of charges, including assault.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Schmidtman or the blue Dodge Caravan with Maryland registration M904798, is asked to call the Golden Ring Barrack (410) 780-2700 or call 911.
