Police: Domestic Incident Involving Delaware State Trooper Ends In Her Fatally Shooting Boyfriend

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The boyfriend of a Delaware State Trooper was shot and killed following a domestic incident inside a Wilmington home Sunday, authorities say.

A 911 call reporting shots fired was received around 11:10 p.m. Sunday night.

New Castle County Police and Delaware State Police responded to the address and found an off-duty female trooper severely battered and her boyfriend with a gun shot wound to the upper torso.

Troopers learned that the female trooper, an eight year veteran of the Delaware State Police, and 43-year-old Maurice Ifill,of Owings Mills, had been involved in a violent physical altercation inside of the home.

At some point during the altercation, she retrieved her service handgun and fired the weapon, striking Ifill.

The trooper and Ifill were both treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. They were then transported by ambulance to the Christiana Medical Center where Ifill was declared dead.

His body was then turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy will be performed.

The trooper was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries and is currently in stable condition.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Additional information and investigative details will be released as soon as it becomes available and the investigation progresses.
