Multiple People Injured In Separate Harford County School Bus Crashes

BALTIMORE (WJZ) - Harford County fire and EMS crews, along with Maryland State Police, were called out to two separate school bus crashes in the area.

Officials say the first bus crash was just after 7:15 a.m. on Route 543 and Hillside Rd. A 15-year-old male student on the bus was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

State Police say the investigation found that a Ford Explorer tried to change lanes and hit a Mitsubishi Lancer. Following that collision, the Explorer then struck the back of the school bus.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was charged with driver changing lanes when unsafe.

The other school bus accident happened about 15 minutes after the first one, and also occurred on Route 543. This accident was along 543 and Redfield. A person from a passenger vehicle was taken to a regional trauma center. An additional ambulance was called to transport one student to the hospital with very minor injuries.

The investigation into the second bus crash showed the school bus failed to stop at a red traffic signal and hit the side of a Chevrolet Cobalt that was making a left turn from Redfield Rd. to Rt. 543 south.

The school bus driver was charged with failing to stop at a red signal.
