Velvet by far is one of the most underappreciated fabrics in everyday men's fashion. The soft material adds texture and shine to outfits. Typically used for blazers, the unisex cloth gives the warmth of wool without bringing the itch. I used to associate velvet with in lining of a jewelry box or the makings of a smoking jacket but its latest appearances on all the runways and fashion spreads have opened my eyes to a new kind of velvet, one that says hot British soccer player or hunky Russian diplomat. If you'd like to pretend you're either of those, or you just like the look, I suggest investing in a velvet piece.

The militant look is still holding on. Combat boots, padded jackets and a surplus of pockets all fall in this category and are all over every men's fashion spread. Tone the trend down with a neutral cargo jacket. Naturally an outfit of dark colors and thick fabrics is made for the winter months, protecting from the harsh wind and cold, while giving you a brave, manly look.

Tweed is the new cotton. OK, not quite but it has resurfaced after its 1979 disappearance and it is inspiring and creating super stylish blazers and jackets. The woven fabric is warm and can be found in many different colors from brown to red. Typically, a tweed blazer is accessorized with a hat or scarf and can be worn with any kind of pant, even a jean.

People think of cold winter days and automatically think of depressing blacks and grays. Why does cold weather have to mean drab threads? Guys, brighten your closet, not only in the spring and summer but in the fall and winter, too. Try finding emerald pieces, or even cobalt blue. They are some of the trendiest colors for fall and will add something interesting to a typically dreary winter wardrobe. Find a similar style to this Armani look at a funky brand like Urban Outfitters or H & M.
Cashmere Trench Coats

Every season there's that item you just have to invest in. You might have to shell out more cash than usual but it's always worth it. An investment in a cashmere trench coat might be the greatest use of your money (besides donating to charity or something). The quality of cashmere will leave you with a smooth, sophisticated coat that will last for years. Given the cost of the average cashmere scarf, the trench will be pricey but think of it as a stake in your fashion future.
