BALTIMORE (WJZ)—The opening ceremony to Maryland’s Fleet Week and Air Show kicks off on Wednesday.

The annual event celebrates the rich naval traditions of the Chesapeake Bay and the contributions of Marylanders to the defense of the nation.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Monday, October 10, 2016

  • 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race vessels: View Schooners at the Dockside in Canton.

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

  • 9 a.m.-12 p.m. – “Salute to Schooners” Schooners fire cannon salute to the Fort while students sing patriotic songs.

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

  • 8 a.m.-3 p.m. – U.S. and Canadian Navy ships begin arriving (Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Locust Point)
  • 4 p.m. – Maryland Fleet Week “Welcome Ceremony”
    Governor Larry Hogan is expected to welcome representatives from visiting  U.S.Navy and Canadian vessels to Baltimore, Maryland. The event includes a performance by U.S. Navy Ceremonial Band,  elected officials and sponsors. The event is free and open to the public (Amphitheater, Inner Harbor)
  • 5 p.m.-7 .pm. – Watch participating schooners from the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooners’ Parade of Sail (Inner Harbor)

Thursday, October 13, 2016

  • 9 a.m.-1 p.m.: “Navigate the Fleet – Explore the Ships Day!”
    Students descend on the Inner Harbor and throughout the Port of Baltimore for educational experiences from U.S. and Canadian Navy Ships and Navy assets.
  • 1 p.m.-6 p.m.: U.S. & Canadian Navy Ships Open for public touring. (Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Locust Point)
  • 1 p.m.-6 p.m.: Fleet Week Shuttle to U.S. Navy Ships in Locust Point (leave from Inner Harbor Visitor Center)
  • 1 p.m.-6 p.m.: Fleet Week Festival presented by AT&T – Fleet, Fun, Entertainment and More!  (Inner Harbor)

Friday, October 14, 2016

  • 9 a.m.-2 p.m.: Fleet Week “Crew Sports Day” Teams compete in softball, basketball, corn hole and soccer (Latrobe Park, Locust Point)
  • 1 p.m.-6 p.m.: U.S. & Canadian Navy Ships open for public touring. (Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Locust Point)
  • 1 p.m.-6 p.m.: Fleet Week Festival presented by AT&T – Fleet, Fun, Entertainment and More! (Inner Harbor)

  • 6 a.m.-3 p.m.: Baltimore Running Festival/Marathon throughout the city – many road closures until 1-3pm
  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m.: Martin State Airport Open House and Free Festival, U.S. & Canadian Navy and Blue Angels (Martin State Airport)
  • 11 a.m.-9 p.m.: Fleet Week Chesapeake Galley & Beer Garden (West Shore Park, Inner Harbor)
  • 1 p.m.-4 p.m.: Air Show Baltimore Performance (viewing throughout area at/near Fort McHenry plus other area locations)
  • 1 p.m.-6 p.m.: U.S. & Canadian Navy Ship Tours open for public touring (Inner Harbor, Fells Point) No Locust Point tours
  • 1 p.m.-6 p.m.: Fleet Week Festival presented by AT&T – Fleet, Fun, Entertainment and More (Inner Harbor)
  • 5 p.m.: USS ZUMWALT Commissioning Ceremony – Advance Invitation Only
