President Barack Obama and congressional leaders unveiled a full-length statue of civil rights icon Rosa Parks in the Capitol Wednesday, paying tribute to a figure whose name became synonymous with courage in the face of injustice.
A statue of Frederick Douglass will soon be moved to the United States Capitol alongside statues of luminaries from the 50 states, and District of Columbia leaders are planning to celebrate the move.
An 8-foot-tall bronze statue of Baltimore’s first black mayor will be placed at the Inner Harbor.

The Orioles had a well attended ceremony for the unveiling of the statue of Hall of Fame first baseman Eddie Murray. Before the celebration even began the crowd erupted with the chants of “Eddie Eddie Eddie.”
