Meningitis Outbreak Traced To Steroid Used To Relieve Back Pain; Health Officials Brace For More Cases
Injected to relieve pain, a steroid contaminated with meningitis has killed five people in the U.S., including one right here in Maryland. And nationally, as many as 900 people may have received a potentially dangerous injection.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says ricotta cheese tainted with listeria bacteria is linked to 14 illnesses and at least one death.
Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh has backtracked on radio comments he made earlier Tuesday.
The listeria outbreak has now made at least 72 people sick and caused 16 deaths in 18 states, including in Central Maryland where a man died after eating a tainted cantaloupe.
