Best Indoor Basketball Courts In Baltimore

Originating in Springfield, Massachusetts, the sport called basketball is approximately 125 years old. Yep, people have been playing basketball since 1891. Talk about a very enjoyable and entertaining sport. The game of basketball became a certified Olympic event at the summer games in Berlin, Germany during the year of 1936. Be sure to check out five of the best indoor basketball courts in Baltimore. Most indoor basketball courts in Baltimore are housed via local public recreational centers, local YMCAs, colleges & universities and nationally franchised athletic gyms.

There are approximately 41 recreation centers in the city of Baltimore, and most have an indoor basketball court, including Coldstream Recreation Center. The recreation center is open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesday- Friday and from 10 a.m.to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays during the fall, winter and spring seasons. They offer free open court sessions after 6:30 p.m. on every day of the week except for Tuesday.

Chick Webb Recreation Center is located in East Baltimore and was named after the distinguished swing-era jazz drummer and musician William Henry 'Chick' Webb. According to managerial staff, you can schedule time to use their indoor basketball facility. There is also generally free open form hours from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. during regularly scheduled hours of operation.

In order to enter the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center, patrons must have a valid membership card. They do house an indoor basketball court at this rec center. The center mainly caters to Johns Hopkins University students and employees; however, others are welcome. According to the details on the rec center website, students and employees of Johns Hopkins can use their ID cards as a recreation center membership card. If you are not affiliated with Johns Hopkins, the $15 cost for a O'Connor Recreation Center membership card is pretty reasonable. Additional guest passes are also available for those visitors who already have a membership card.

The Northwood Recreation Center is located in the Northwood community of Northeast Baltimore. The recreation center generally offers free form indoor basketball court hours, which are open to the public two days of the week. You may also need to join a local basketball league to use their facility outside of open gym hours. The rec center currently offers both a 50 and over league and a youth league.

Carmelo Anthony Youth Center houses one of the most popular indoor basketball courts in Baltimore. They generally offer free open court hours on Tuesday and Thursday evening, but you should call before attending as those hours are subject to change. Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center also showcases very exciting basketball tournaments. Also, you never know when you will bump into the legendary basketball player Carmelo Anthony himself just by hanging out at his rec center.
