Best Movies Set In Baltimore

One of the best things about living in a city is getting to see your hometown represented on the silver screen.  It's always fun to see your favorite places, as well as sights you see every day, through the lens of Hollywood.  Here are five of the best movies set in Baltimore.

"The Accidental Tourist"

"The Accidental Tourist" was filmed all over Baltimore (especially in Roland Park) and Towson.  It's based on a book by Anne Tyler, who's set all her books in Baltimore.

"Diner"

"Diner" is a Barry Levinson film and is one of the AFI's 100 Best Comedies.  It was filmed in Canton and Fells Point.  It stars Daniel Stern, who's from Maryland.  Michael Tucker is also from Baltimore.

"Hairspray"

This was set in 1962 and is about a dance show loosely based on a dance show that aired on WJZ. This was directed by John Waters.  There was a musical released as well, but that version wasn't actually filmed in Baltimore.  It also features Baltimore native Josh Charles, who you can watch in the TV show "The Good Wife" Tuesdays on WJZ.

"Ladder 49" was filmed in Baltimore (specifically in Curtis Bay) and in Annapolis.  It stars John Travolta, who was also in the musical "Hairspray" as Edna Turnblad, which was set (but not filmed) in Baltimore.

Don't let the name fool you.  Annie (Meg Ryan) was from Baltimore and her scenes (pre-Seattle and New York) were filmed here, especially in Mount Vernon and Fells Point.  There are also scenes filmed in Annapolis.
